Yunus Centre Press Release (03 April, 2019)

On 26 – 27 March, 2019, Stand Speak Rise Up! International Conference was held in European Convention Center, Luxembourg hosted by the Luxembourg Government and HRH The Grand Duchess Maria Teresa who summoned leaders all around the world to raise awareness and to call for action in a bid to put an end to the suffering of women and children who become victims of sexual violence in war and conflict.

“Stand Speak Rise Up!” conference was created when HRH partnered with the Nobel Peace Laureates of 2018 in a fight to end sexual violence – the Congolese Doctor Denis Mukwege, and the ISIS survivor and Yazidi activist Nadia Murad. Together, they chartered this event to give leverage to the unheard voices of the sexual violence victims.

Nobel Peace Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus was also present at the conference and attended the “Girl’s Day” Gala night where he appeared on stage along with Grand Duchess to honour all the victims of sexual violence in conflict zones around the world.

He was invited by The Grand Duchess as her personal special guest and stayed at the royal palace, the Grand Ducal Palace.

On concluding day Professor Yunus  presented his keynote speech. During his keynote speech, Professor Yunus indicated that the relationships of men and women are asymmetric and it is the job of people to come out of their fragmented view points for a better society. He also stressed that the patriarchal society has imposed many restrictions on women and these restrictions must be stripped off layer by layer for women to be empowered and to move forward.

Some of the eminent speakers at this event were Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs and Minister of Immigration and Asylum of Luxembourg, Michelle Bachelet, High Commissioner for Human Rights of United Nations, Clare Hutchinson, Special Representative for Women, Peace and Security at NATO, Ambassador Mara Marinaki, EU/EEAS Principal Advisor on Gender and on UNSCR 1325/WPS, Pramila Patten, Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict at United Nations, David Pereira, President of Amnesty International Luxembourg, Alexander Stubb, Vice-President at European Investment Bank, and Michel Wurth, Director, ArcelorMittal Luxembourg; Vice-Chairman at Luxembourg Red Cross. The conference which the HRH termed as a form of “international reunion” for survivors of sexual violence in war and conflict, brought together 50 survivors from 22 countries.

The conference was successful in creating a platform to link stakeholders and survivors of sexual violence in building new partnerships, scaled current efforts, and acknowledged innovative and lasting resolutions.

যৌন হয়রানি বন্ধের সংগ্রামে লুক্সেমবার্গের মহামান্য গ্র্যান্ড ডাচেস-এর সাথে হাত মেলালেন প্রফেসর ইউনূস

লুক্সেমবার্গ সরকার ও লুক্সেমবার্গের মহামান্য ডাচেস মারিয়া টেরেসার আয়োজনে ২৬-২৭ মার্চ ২০১৯ লুক্সেমবার্গের “ইউরোপিয়ান কনভেনশন সেন্টার”-এ অনুষ্ঠিত হলো ”স্ট্যান্ড স্পীক রাইজ আপ!” শীর্ষক  আন্তর্জাতিক সম্মেলন। মহামান্য ডাচেস যুদ্ধ ও বিরোধকে কেন্দ্র করে বিশ্বব্যাপী নারী ও শিশুদের উপর যৌন অত্যাচার বন্ধে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি ও কার্যকর ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণের লক্ষ্যে বিশ্ব নেতাদেরকে এই সম্মেলনে আমন্ত্রণ জানান।

”স্ট্যান্ড স্পীক রাইজ আপ!” সম্মেলনের উৎপত্তি হয় যখন মহামান্য ডাচেস যৌন সহিংসা বন্ধের লক্ষ্যে ২০১৮ সালে নোবেল শান্তি পুরস্কার জয়ী কঙ্গোর ডা. ডেনিস মুকওয়েজি এবং আইএসএইএস-এর হাত থেকে বেঁচে ফিরে আসা ইয়াজিদি সমাজকর্মী নাদিয়া মুরাদের সাথে একসাথে কাজ করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন। তাঁরা যৌন সহিংসতার শিকার নারী ও শিশুদের কাহিনী ভূক্তভোগীদের নিজেদের মুখ থেকে বিশ্ববাসীর কাছে তুলে ধরতে যৌথভাবে এই আন্তর্জাতিক সম্মেলনের আয়োজন করেন।

প্রফেসর ইউনূস এই সম্মেলনে বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। তিনি “গার্লস ডে” গালা নাইটে মহামান্য ডাজেচ এর সাথে মঞ্চে উপস্থিত হন যেখানে তাঁরা বিশ্ব জুড়ে বিরোধপূর্ণ এলাকাগুলোতে যৌন অত্যাচারের শিকার নারী ও শিশুদের প্রতি সম্মান জানান।

উল্লেখ্য যে, প্রফেসর ইউনূস মহামান্য ডাচেসের ব্যক্তিগত আমন্ত্রণে তাঁর বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে এই সম্মেলনে যোগ দেন এবং রাজকীয় গ্র্যান্ড ডাচ প্রাসাদে অবস্থান করেন।

সম্মেলনের সমাপনী দিনে প্রফেসর ইউনূস মূল সম্মেলন ভাষণ প্রদান করেন। তিনি তাঁর বক্তব্যে বলেন যে, নারী ও পুরুষের সম্পর্কটি অপ্রতিসম এবং একটি উন্নততর সমাজ গড়ে তুলতে হলে মানুষকে তাদের খন্ডিত দৃষ্টিভঙ্গিগুলো থেকে বেরিয়ে আসতে হবে। তিনি জোর দিয়ে বলেন যে, পিতৃতান্ত্রিক সমাজ ব্যবস্থা নারীদের উপর অনেক বিধিনিষেধ চাপিয়ে দিয়ে রেখেছে। এসব বিধিনিষেধের বেড়াজাল থেকে নারীদেরকে মুক্ত করে তাদের ক্ষমতায়ন ও সামনে এগিয়ে যাবার পথ তৈরী করতে হবে।

সম্মেলনে অংশগ্রহণকারী বিশিষ্ট ব্যাক্তিবর্গের মধ্যে আরো ছিলেন লুক্সেমবার্গের প্রধানমন্ত্রী জ্যাভিয়ের বেটেল, লুক্সেমবার্গের বৈদেশিক ও ইউরোপ বিষয়ক মন্ত্রী এবং অভিবাসন ও রাজনৈতিক আশ্রয় বিষয়ক মন্ত্রী জিন অ্যাসেলবর্ন, জাতি সংঘের মানবাধিকার বিষয়ক হাই কমিশনার মিশেল ব্যাচেলে, ন্যাটোর মহিলা, শান্তি ও নিরাপত্তা বিষয়ক বিশেষ প্রতিনিধি ক্লেয়ার হাচিনসন, ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়ন/ ইউরোপীয় এক্সটার্নাল সার্ভিসেস অ্যাকশন এবং জাতি সংঘ নিরাপত্তা পরিষদ রেজ্যুলেশন ১৩২৫/নারী, শান্তি ও নিরাপত্তা-এর জেন্ডার বিষয়ক মূখ্য উপদেষ্টা অ্যাম্বাসেডর মারা মারিনাকি, জাতি সংঘে “বিরোধ উদ্ভুত যৌন সহিংতা” বিষয়ক বিশেষ প্রতিনিধি প্রমিলা প্যাটেন, অ্যামনেস্টি ইন্টারন্যাশনাল লুক্সেমবার্গ-এর প্রেসিডেন্ট ডেভিড পেরেইরা, ইউরোপিয়ান ইনভেস্টমেন্ট ব্যাংকের ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট আলেকজান্ডার স্টাব এবং আরসেলর-মিত্তাল লুক্সেমবার্গ-এর পরিচালক ও লুক্সেমবার্গ রেড ক্রস-এর ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট মাইকেল র্উথ। যুদ্ধ ও বিরোধের কারণে যৌন সহিংসা থেকে বেঁচে ফিরে আসাদের নিয়ে, মহামান্য ডাচেসের ভাষায়, এক ধরনের এই “আন্তর্জাতিক পুনর্মিলনী”-তে যোগ দেন ২২টি দেশের ৫০ জন অত্যাচারিত নারী ও শিশু।

যৌন সহিংসতা বন্ধে কাজ করছে এমন অংশীজনদের সাথে সহিংসার শিকার মানুষদেরকে যুক্ত করা, সহিংসা বন্ধে বিভিন্ন কার্যক্রমকে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়া এবং এই লক্ষ্যে গৃহীত বিভিন্ন উদ্ভাবনামূলক ও স্থায়ী সংকল্পকে স্বীকৃতি দেবার উদ্দেশ্যে একটি আন্তর্জাতিক প্লাটফরম সৃষ্টিতে এটি ছিল একটি সফল সম্মেলন।
