Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus was invited by the new Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to visit Mexico to have elaborate discussion with his cabinet ministers regarding Professor Yunus's experience in poverty eradication programme. Ending poverty and corruption were the overriding commitment on which President fought and won a landslide victory in the presidential election. During his stay in Mexico he was invited to address a national event to launch the National Agenda for 2030 to attain the SDGs. The conference was attended by nearly all cabinet ministers and the Speaker of the lower house of parliament. During the nationally televised event in the packed conference hall of the Foreign Ministry, Professor Yunus highlighted his vision of three zero economy, zero poverty, zero unemployment, and zero net carbon emissions through redesigning theoretical framework of economics. He emphasised that by following old concepts and framework we can only continue to produce more poverty and more corruption. He pointed out that by going through old roadS one can only reach the same old destination. If we want to reach a new destination we have to build new roads. He elaborated his ideas of social business and entrepreneurship for all young people. He proposed new financial framework to support the entrepreneurship of people at individual level.
The Conference was addressed by the Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, President’s Chief of Cabinet Alfonso Romo, and Speaker of the Lower House of the Parliament veteran politician Porfirio Munoz Ledo, Minister of Wellbeing Ms Maria Luisa Albores, Minister of Environment Marcelo Toledo, Ministers of Culture, Minister of Tourism, parliamentarians and other dignitaries.
